What is Madre' Madre'?

Tara-Mae: Madre´ Madre´, I like to think – is me in a nutshell. I’ve always loved jewellery and esoteric topics in the spiritual sense. As a brand, it was meant to just be an online portfolio for the jewellery that I’d designed and made in the past. However, during lockdown I actually had a few people approach me via Instagram asking if they could buy my pieces or if I was going to be remaking them, so as I was putting the website together, I thought why not make it available to the public to purchase through a made-to-order system. This then led me to get back into designing and making... because what else is there to do in multiple long lockdowns?! It was also during lockdown that I finally bit the bullet and decided to commit to my energy healing work. Energy Healing can be considered quite 'woo-woo' as it’s an unorthodox healing method but I’d always felt called to do something in the energy healing/spiritual field. I finally gained the courage to commit to my life long interest and thought I could integrate it as an offering as part of Madre´ Madre´.

Where do you find inspiration?

Tara-Mae: I draw inspiration from nature, which encompasses all energetic living things. I also find a lot of inspiration from divination, ancient spiritual practices and symbols.

What are the benefits of energy healing?

Tara-Mae: Healing helps remove stagnant energy in your body by removing blocks in a similar way that acupuncture or acupressure does, which in turn improves the flow of energy. When the energy in your body flows easily, it triggers relaxation, relieves pain and speeds up the body’s natural healing process. A lot of the time, people think that energy healing is only for the physical body but it definitely also heals the emotional body. This is incredibly important too because everything is energy, for example, if you’re highly anxious, depressed, angry – those are really intense energies to hold in your body and if left untreated can manifest as physical ailments. Therefore, additionally, what energy healing can do for you is unlock those deep-rooted emotional blocks, allowing you and the practitioner to work through them in order to release them.

What does peace look like for you?

Tara-Mae: Peace for me is those little moments of feeling content in my day-to-day life. It can be something as simple as sipping on a cup of tea early in the morning whilst taking in the stillness in the house or the time I have to myself when I’m being creative through designing or making jewellery, when I’m doing my energy healing work, when I’m connected to my body and breath during yoga/pilates, when I’m out in nature or at the beach feeling the sun on my skin and the wind in my hair, when I’m reading a book whilst sitting in the sunshine. I always aim to find a little slice of peace in my day, even if it’s only for 5 minutes.

Bedside reads?

Tara-Mae: I’m currently trying to read my way through Wheels of Light by Rosalyn Bruyere and Eastern Body Western Mind by Anodea Judith.

Something you learned in lockdown?

Tara-Mae: To slow down and always find time to connect with yourself and your creativity. In a world that’s always on the go, especially if you have little ones to look after, it can be so easy to forget about “you”. I’m naturally a creative person, so when I don’t have a creative outlet I become really disconnected from myself and in turn, anxious and scattered. I’d like to think that, thanks to lockdown, I found “me” again.
